|So far, I am pretty impressed with this transformer. With 125 volts AC line voltage, I see about 1050 volts AC on the secondary. The primary is rated for 110VAC, and the with buck winding at -16V you will have the rated 900V. Use the boost mode with 24V boost and you'll see about 1350V. |
I didn't need the filament windings as I was using this in a homebrew GI46B 2 meter amp. With a voltage doubler, I get 2800 volts at 800 milliamps. (2240 watts DC input max).
With the buck boost, I can increase or decrease the voltage about 25%. (I saw about 3700VDC no load with the maximum boost and a voltage doubler.)
This would be a perfect transformer for my GS35B 1.5 KW HF amp I am getting ready to build. (3700 * .8 = 2960 watts DC and at 60% efficiency, that 1775 watts output!!!
My GI46B tube uses a max of about 350 ma, (980 watts DC input). (this transformer is good enough for a pair). If my single tube amp runs 50% efficient, that's 490 watts. I was seeing about 600 watts output so efficiency is more like 62%.
Time to burn it in and see how well it works over time.
